To help you adapt to work-from-home both happily and comfortably, we offer the following tips and images shared from our customers who use MojoDesk as an important part of their home office.

Minimalistic setup for work from home

Establish a routine

Temptations and distractions will abound when you work from home. But dont abuse your new-found freedom; it will make you unproductive and leave you feeling guilty. Here are a few tips for creating a daily routine to maximize focus and efficiency:

  • Go to a designated work-only space at the same time every day.
  • Keep regular work hours.
  • Schedule breaks throughout the day.
  • Keep family and pets out of your workspace.
  • Stop working at a designated time each day.
  • Choose a space thats separate enough from the rest of your living quarters that you feel off-the-clock” when you stop working for the day.
  • Do not check emails, voicemails or work texts while sitting in front of the TV

Create a peaceful environment

  • Block out noise. I dont know about you, but my I.Q. drops at least 20 points every time my kids walk in the room.
  • Feng Shui” your space.Create a visually peaceful environment that is personal.  This could be a minimalistic setup or by surrounding yourself with things that bring you joy like pictures of your family, sports memorabilia, or as shown in the picture below, a wall of action figures. Whatever works. The important thing is to keep it clean and organized. This includes effective cable management. Nothing says chaos like the sight of tangled, mismatched cords running across your workspace.

  • Let music set the mood. If working with music in the background is your jam, opt for sounds from nature. Listening to natural sounds vs. artificial sounds is shown to prompt more external-focused attention.

 Work in the cloud

  • It saves precious space in your home office.
  • Cloud storage avoids the time and money youd spend on physical backups.

Get the right equipment

Of course you need a computer, WIFI and a working mobile phone. Maybe even some noise-canceling headphones and a clean shirt for video meeting” days. But what about the furniture?

Finding furniture that not only fits into that spare-bedroom-turned-office but fits YOU as well is key. Why? Because ergonomics are key to good health, comfort and productivity, and it starts with a good sit-to-stand desk. While a height-adjustable desk may not have been an option back at the office, employers like Shopify are now offering a substantial stipend for your purchase of an ergonomic home-office desk.

Desks that are too large are too small for you, require you to reach too far for your monitor, or compromise your arms and hands with squared edges hinder your comfort, health and productivity. And now that you work at home, you have a chance to change that.

Consider these facts about work-from-home comfort, health and productivity:

  • Your HealthNIH reports that most people nationwide spend more than half their waking hours sitting or inactive for long stretches of time, which contributes to a reported34 chronic diseases. Investing in a sit-to-stand desk for your home office can reduce your risk for both lifestyle-related disease and early death.
  • Your Comfort: Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are a leading cause of lost wages and days off. MSDs range from chronic back pain due to awkward reaching and sitting, to wrist and hand injuries from repetitive keyboard typing. Damage to hand bones and tendons accounted for 21 percent of all reported workplace hand injuries in 2017. A new class of height-adjustable desks that adjust to fit your body allows for varied positions during the workday and features a gently sloping desk edge to support hands and wrists. Recent survey participants reported a 32% improvement in lower back pain after several weeks of using standing desks.
  • Your ProductivityIntermittent standing is proven to increase productivity by cutting in half the number of breaks users take during the workday. Further, an NIH study reports that 87% of those using standing desks reported increased energy and focus throughout the day.

Fortunately, there is a bevy of options in sit-to-stand desks that have a new generation of WFH desk jockeysand gamersreaping the benefits. New design features like uniquely curved desk shapes deliver a wraparound effect” that optimizes desk space, minimizes unnecessary reaching, and adds ergonomic comfort to your work-from-home experience.

And hey, if the work thing doesnt work out, you could just spend your time gaming
